About Foundry Lane Cookware

Cast iron cookware poured and machined in Pittsburgh.

Foundry Lane Cookware is a small iron foundry and machine shop in the Strip District of Pittsburgh. We opened in 2024 in a building that was a railroad freight house, three blocks from the Allegheny River.

Pittsburgh made iron and steel for 150 years, and most of that know-how is still here, in people who learned it from their parents. Our founder spent 12 years as a pattern-maker in a jobbing foundry before starting this one. We employ seven people, including two apprentices from a local trade program.

Our iron is recycled scrap from Pennsylvania mills. We melt it in an induction furnace, pour it into green-sand molds made in our shop, and machine the cooking surface flat on a CNC mill. Seasoning is three coats of flaxseed oil, baked on in a batch oven. Every piece is inspected, numbered, and packed here.

The shop is open for tours on the first Saturday of each month at 10 am. Email us to reserve a spot.
